I’ve been sorely tempted to dive into FE lately. So much so, in fact, that I’ve been stalking the official forums looking for something to push me over the edge. There’s a lot that I find neat about the game, not the least of which is the crafting system.
Which, apparently, is a bit of an issue for the Fallen Earth community. As it stands now, items don’t wear down which means that, given time, the market will be flooded with crafting gear selling for little more than if it were vendored off.
This concerns me a little. My money is tight right now, so the decision to spend $50 on a new game is a big one. Crafting looks like it could be one of the best parts of the game but, if the reward for those efforts is to see the same item I just crafted selling for virtually nothing, there’s not much point.
Does anyone know anything about this or heard anything about changes in the future?

As long as the items themselves are not too absurd to obtain, then I’m fine with that. Item wear was a wonderful part of Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies, both games that thrive(d) on player-centric economies. Eventually, no matter how well-made or powerful an item was, it would break from repair or lose so much of its maximum durability that it would be useless to equip.
I’m with you. Money’s tight, but I want Fallen Earth badly. Maybe Steam will have an MMO weekend again and let me get it for 20 or 30 bucks. I could probably swing that.
Item wear is an important part of any game as crafting-rich as FE.
[...] As Chris says, nobody really knows how the economy is going to work in the game, because everyone can craft everything, and I’ve yet to see anything that binds to a character, which means items can be reused over and over again without sucking them out of the economy. It’s an issue, and it’s probably something that’s going to gather more and more complaints until Icarus Studios deals with it head-on. [...]
Items wear down when you die. I died a hand full of times the other day and all my gear is at 50% durability now. Im still not sure if you lose max durability rating when you repair them as I will be using repair kits on my stuff tonight. AH is already crazy over priced even selling items for more than npc vendors offer it for getting rid of the vendors would make it even worse. For example npc vendors sell fasteners for 33 chips each, last time I checked the AH a stack of 5 fasteners cost 300 chips. Everyone cannot make everything, if you want a pure combat character you will not want points in INT. Also, the high level gear towards end game does bind.
It is easier to make money off the mats than crafted items. That is true and I guess it should be the other way around but none of this guys suggestions would fix that. Personally I have sold a few atv parts and armor pieces on the AH but the rest has all been vendored and Im having no issues with money in the game. It’s pretty easy to have money when your not buying the mats for your crafting on the extremely overpriced AH.
