Fox News is Trustworthy

I have to applaud Fox News on this one. They really dug in and gave a “fair and balanced” view without leaving anything out. See guys, I told you that you were wrong about that whole selective quoting thing.

In an article titled Is Bulletstorm the Worst Video Game in the World? I had a revelation with this quote from Carol Lieberman:

“The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games,” she said.

THIS is why SW:TOR will fail. Too many of Bioware’s players turning into rapists. You can’t sustain a sub when you’re serving 20-to-life, folks. Nevermind all those mass murderers questing will make. Damn you, full-voicing! The urges are too much!

Seriously: I don’t pretend to defend the gratuitous testosterone fueled mayhem Bulletstorm provides, but give me a break. It’s a mature rated game. Read that, Mrated. That means it’s not intended for kids. So when Fox claims that 9 year olds will somehow be harmed by it, I wonder if they ever blamed Cinemax for releasing the DVD box set of Red Shoe Diaries. What’s that? It’s the parent’s job to see their kids don’t watch porn? How about Dell for opening doors to the seedy underbelly of the Internet?

That’s right, I almost forgot. Video games make for good headlines with their old-white-guy demographic. Fair and balanced. Does anyone even believe that any more?

I actually wondered if it was a sponsored piece designed to drum up more attention towards Bulletstorm. cos otherwise it makes no sense.

Isn’t Fox News something of a joke? I guess the BBC spoils us but it always seems from this side of the pond like one of those “Aliens impregnated my hamster” comedy news reporting services rather than anything an intelligent person would consider real news.

It depends on who you listen to. For many, Fox News has reporting so pointlessly and unambiguously biased that it counts as “news” only in the sense that it talks about events vaguely resembling those in the real world. There’s also a very large contingent of people who believe that it’s the only honest source of news left in the country. Which camp you belong to seems to be directly related to how spectacular you think George W. Bush was as a president, to be blunt.

For the record, I would like to note that this is a network which hired a former Republican vice-presidential candidate to provide political commentary. I think that pretty much speaks for itself.

It’s also the biggest network syndicating Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Rielly, Glenn Beck, and Michael Savage. On the other side of the fence they had Alan Colmes, who I think has resigned from the show.

I will give them this, for actual news reporting — like, radio news, not television — I actually really like them. Their hosts are popular because they’re good at what they do. I’ve got to give them that, whether I agree with their stances or not.

It’s an unfortunate parody of itself, to be honest. The attempt was to provide a right-leaning view in the face of so many left-leaning news outlets, but they went way, way, way over the top in the process.

      This story is absolutely ridiculous.

What “increase in rapes”? According to the FBI’s crime statistics, the incidence of violent crap (including rape) has been steadily decreasing in the US since the early 90s. If this is an example of the quality of Fox News journalism, the general contempt in which the network is held is well deserved. Then again, why should they let facts get in the way of a good headline?

We all agree that The Simpsons are from the Fox network correct? Yes then I wonder why or have they made this connection: “Bonestorm is an ultra-violent fighting game. It was released during the Christmas season in Springfield” This game appeared in an older Simpsons episode Bonestorm…Bulletstorm…connection yes?no?
